4. AI Models, Photos, and Evaluation Data

4.1 Use of Photos and Book Data for Evaluations

When you upload photos or information about a book, we use that data to:

  • Generate an AI evaluation, including condition, value range, and metadata;
  • Create or update a Passport for that book;
  • Provide listing data for marketplace entries (where applicable).

4.2 Use for Machine Learning & Service Improvement

AI Training & Model Improvement

We may use book photos, evaluation data, and metadata—in anonymized or aggregated form—to:

  • Train, improve, and validate our models;
  • Develop new features or products;
  • Enhance condition grading, edition recognition, dust-jacket detection, and signature heuristics.

Where possible, we remove or obfuscate personal identifiers before using data to improve models. We do not sell your personal information.

4.3 Evaluation Tokens & Saved-For-Later Evaluations

When you complete an evaluation through HonestBookAI, we may:

  • Generate an internal evaluation ID and token;
  • Allow you to choose whether to "save this for my future Bookshelf" or similar;
  • Tie that evaluation to your email or Account so it can later be imported into your Bookshelf.

If you choose not to save an evaluation under your Account, we may still retain anonymized or aggregated data derived from that evaluation to improve the Services.

5. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Keep you signed in;
  • Remember preferences;
  • Analyze usage;
  • Support advertising and retargeting.

For more details, see our Cookie Policy.

You can manage your cookie preferences through your browser settings and through our cookie consent banner and preferences panel (where available).
